The Psychedelic Review

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Have you ever heard of those mythical publications out of the sixties where spacey LSD-dosing scientists and essayists talk about drugs in the most official way possible? I had too, and today I found a glorious archive containing every volume of the ’60s publication The Psychedelic Review. Choice articles (PDF) include “The Pharmacology of Psychedelic Drugs,” “Four Psilocybin Experiences,” as well as “LSD and Sexuality.” The last one has a pretty trippy drawing on the last page, and in fact, most of the later issues are filled with all kinds of trippy content. Anyway, this place is awesome so go check it out. Leave any comments you may have below.

High Satisfaction: Munchies Gone Overboard

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

If you’re like me, you have probably already decided that the above image represents food in its most highly developed form. If Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs can be applied to our kitchen creations—and I firmly believe it can—then this dish represents what is produced after we have moved beyond mere sustenance, nutrition and other such petty health concerns. Oh, yes. It is exactly this sort of gross excess that High Satisfaction, a stoner website about elaborate munchies, specializes in. The site’s author seems to possess a particular penchant for ice cream and chocolate, two things that nearly every stoner capable eating them loves.

If you just want to get high from your food, we’ve got that covered.

Trichromes: A Field Guide

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

From the Bluelight forums: A quick summary of trichromes. This is a great read, even if you’re stoned (it’s short). There are even a couple of cool macro shots to keep you entertained. Thanks go to zephyr from our own forums for originally bringing this to light here on Stoner Culture. Comment below if you found this interesting.

Think Marijuana Smoking Causes Lung Cancer? Read These.

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

I found these two studies a while back while I was searching for evidence of a link between marijuana smoking and lung cancer. Basically, the concept is that even though smoke in general is carcinogenic, the cannabinoids in marijuana exert various protective effects and inhibit tumor growth. If you know of any additional studies which—with sound methodology—either affirm or negate what I have posted, please share them by commenting below.

Grau—The Standard for Digital Trippiness

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

This video is absolutely fucking crazy. There’s not any other way I can reasonably explain it. Some of you may have seen this already. Watch it again! The above screenshot does very little to convey the true depth and power this piece contains. There is quite a bit of complexity to the piece overall, and the musical accompaniment is nothing short of phenomenal in terms of quality and overall emotional evocativeness. Click the above picture to go to the artist’s website, or watch the video below. I guarantee you that you’ll want to download the high quality version after viewing the full piece on youtube.
