The Psychedelic Review

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Have you ever heard of those mythical publications out of the sixties where spacey LSD-dosing scientists and essayists talk about drugs in the most official way possible? I had too, and today I found a glorious archive containing every volume of the ’60s publication The Psychedelic Review. Choice articles (PDF) include “The Pharmacology of Psychedelic Drugs,” “Four Psilocybin Experiences,” as well as “LSD and Sexuality.” The last one has a pretty trippy drawing on the last page, and in fact, most of the later issues are filled with all kinds of trippy content. Anyway, this place is awesome so go check it out. Leave any comments you may have below.

The Case For Vaporizers

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

This article was written for the site by our frequent contributer Lotus.

——————————

Why You Should Buy a Vaporizer and Which One You Should Probably Buy

I’ve been an avid smoker for a while (about 4 years), but only recently purchased my first vape. There were a number of reasons holding me back, initially, including price, the different high, and the necessity of having to power it. Hopefully I can convince you to, at the very least, check one out.

How One Might Go About Purchasing The Fine Green Herb

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

This article was written for the site by our friendly contributor Lotus, who has written some interesting articles for us in the past.

——————————

Now, I’m sure most of the patrons of this site are probably well seasoned smokers who know the ropes of the drug game like the back of their hand. However, there are undoubtedly some people out there who have yet to try buying weed, and are understandably a bit intimidated by the concept. Hopefully I can clear up any misconceptions, and quell any fears you might have.

We Have A Forum

Monday, October 20th, 2008

It’s true. There is a forum. That link on the right that says “Forum (beta)“? Try giving it a click. You might find interaction with other stoners (other people!) interesting. Give it a shot.

Think Marijuana Smoking Causes Lung Cancer? Read These.

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

I found these two studies a while back while I was searching for evidence of a link between marijuana smoking and lung cancer. Basically, the concept is that even though smoke in general is carcinogenic, the cannabinoids in marijuana exert various protective effects and inhibit tumor growth. If you know of any additional studies which—with sound methodology—either affirm or negate what I have posted, please share them by commenting below.

Cannabis is Not Scheduled Appropriately

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Written by a contributor who goes by the name of Zephyr.

——————————

I feel the need to report here an egregious error on the part of the United States government concerning the scheduling of certain substances.  As many of you probably know, marijuana is a Schedule I Drug. This means that it has been determined that:

1. The drug or other substance has high potential for abuse.

2. The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.

3. There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

I will address these issues individually, starting with potential for abuse. Mosby’s Medical, Nursing, & Allied Health Dictionary tells us “Substance abuse is the overindulgence in and dependence of a drug or other chemical leading to effects that are detrimental to the individual’s physical and mental health, or the welfare of others.”  So, from this definition, we can establish three things as requisite. Overindulgence, dependence, and detrimental effects to one’s self or others.  The most important word there is “and.”

Austin City Limits—A Highly Stoner-Friendly Event

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Today, your editor in chief made a lengthy voyage to the Austin City Limits music festival. Here’s the low-down:

——————————

I eventually roused myself out of bed at noon after a night of heavy smoking with few breaks. Today was no ordinary day. Today was day 2 of the Austin City Limits music festival. The sole band of my direct interest, CSS, was scheduled today for 3:30. I managed to print my ticket and eventually make it to the show by way of a shuttle bus sometime after getting out of bed. If I may observe, the shuttle bus service was very well managed. I walked my way through a relatively short queue and boarded an air-conditioned bus which took me directly to the festival with a minimum of fanfare. After purchasing some water, which by indication of price was evidently in possession of some very special and amazing properties, I made my way to the AT&T Blue Room to wait for CSS. A band called the Fratellis were finishing up the tail end of their set. I sat on the ground and began to roast the tip from one of the joints I had brought. I took a few hits and extinguished the handy little fellow. I came up as the band played their hit song Flathead. I must note, now, that like many other music festivals, ACL absolutely reeked of pot at all times, so I wasn’t particularly worried about any problems arising from my smoking.

Eventually the band came on, and I toked up as they opened their set with the song Jager Yoga. I was not many rows from the stage, and the sound engulfed me as the cannabinoids began their familiar dance. I continued to smoke throughout the rest of the show with no problems. Some gents a couple rows in front of me were smoking out of a fancy glass chillum, and there were many other such instruments being used prominently. After the set ended, I wandered around the show and sampled various other bands while enjoying the rather intense effects of the herb.

All in all, the festival comes highly recommended to any stoners who wish to smoke while enjoying music.

On Lighters—Just Buy the Damn Bic

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

It has never ceased to amaze me just how many stoners partake of our peculiar craft with the inferior sort of lighter that is a complete chore to get lit and keep lit. During my introductory period to the herb, I was always at the mercy of other people’s lighters, and as a result of this I am a hardcore lighter nazi. I shouldn’t have to state this, but by referring to myself as a nazi I am attempting to illustrate by means of hyperbola that I am rather picky when it comes to the sort of lighter I choose to carry. Anyway, I soon learned that the piss-poor lighters other people carry are never to be trusted when it comes time to light the bowl. The solution?

A Bic lighter:

Hell yes. These lighters are simple, practically indestructible and they always light until they run out of gas. Really: every stoner should carry a no-nonsense gets-the-job-done-every-time lighter like this. Plus, the safety mechanism is laughably simple to remove and with a minimum of work (how-to of that here) you can remove it and have a lighter that is extremely easy to strike:

We can do this, people. It’s not hard. Just buy the damn Bic next time you’re at the convenience store and you need a lighter.

Waiting

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Waiting is something that marijuana smokers are intimately familiar with. This is unfortunate, because waiting to re-up is rarely an experience we savor. This is double the case when you’re dry. Why all the waiting? Aside from the fact that the market is concerned with an illegal product, we wait because drug dealers are very shitty business people. This is especially the case with pot dealers. The pot dealers most people have to deal with are people on the very bottom of the food chain. They’re slanging so they can smoke for free, or so they can have a meager supplement to their income. Anyway, the point that I was originally intending to make is that drug dealers are shitty business people because the nature of the market allows it.

This is the first post of the Stoner Culture blog, and I would like to welcome any new readers to the site. Post your own tales of shitty dealers by making a comment below.
