The Psychedelic Review

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Have you ever heard of those mythical publications out of the sixties where spacey LSD-dosing scientists and essayists talk about drugs in the most official way possible? I had too, and today I found a glorious archive containing every volume of the ’60s publication The Psychedelic Review. Choice articles (PDF) include “The Pharmacology of Psychedelic Drugs,” “Four Psilocybin Experiences,” as well as “LSD and Sexuality.” The last one has a pretty trippy drawing on the last page, and in fact, most of the later issues are filled with all kinds of trippy content. Anyway, this place is awesome so go check it out. Leave any comments you may have below.

The Case For Vaporizers

Why You Should Buy a Vaporizer and Which One You Should Probably Buy

I’ve been an avid smoker for a while (about 4 years), but only recently purchased my first vape. There were a number of reasons holding me back, initially, including price, the different high, and the necessity of having to power it. Hopefully I can convince you to, at the very least, check one out.

Cannabis is Not Scheduled Appropriately

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Written by a contributor who goes by the name of Zephyr.

I feel the need to report here an egregious error on the part of the United States government concerning the scheduling of certain substances.  As many of you probably know, marijuana is a Schedule I Drug. This means that it has been determined that:

1. The drug or other substance has high potential for abuse.

2. The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.

3. There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

I will address these issues individually, starting with potential for abuse. Mosby’s Medical, Nursing, & Allied Health Dictionary tells us “Substance abuse is the overindulgence in and dependence of a drug or other chemical leading to effects that are detrimental to the individual’s physical and mental health, or the welfare of others.”  So, from this definition, we can establish three things as requisite. Overindulgence, dependence, and detrimental effects to one’s self or others.  The most important word there is “and.”

Editorial: A Look at LSD

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

This essay was written by the same fellow who wrote the paper on cannabis as a sensory enhancer a few posts down—King Cthulhu. He will be a regular personality here at Stoner Culture, and while his writings may not always be exactly on the topic of marijuana, they will serve to cover the drug scene—which is, at some level, inseparable from the cannabis scene itself—at large.

Marijuana as a Sensory Enhancer

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

The following is what a friend of mine wrote in one sitting after considering the manifold effects of marijuana on the senses. For context, the writer is currently a student at a prestigious university in the southern US, and he enjoys his high quality marijuana very much.

Marijuana as a sensory enhancer.

The psychoactive and euphoric effects of marijuana are caused by THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and other cannabinoids. One will often notice while on this chemical, food tastes better, music sounds better, movies are better, running is better, etc. Everything is simply better, but why?
