California Medical Marijuana Law Upheld

Friday, October 17th, 2008

——————————

The justices unanimously denied review of an appellate decision in July that concluded California was free to decide whether to punish drug users under its own laws, despite the federal ban on marijuana.

The decision is “a momentous victory for countless seriously ill patients,” said Adam Wolf, an American Civil Liberties Union lawyer who defended the state law in the appeals court. He said the counties should stop wasting money “in a doomed effort to undermine the will of California voters.”

Think Marijuana Smoking Causes Lung Cancer? Read These.

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

I found these two studies a while back while I was searching for evidence of a link between marijuana smoking and lung cancer. Basically, the concept is that even though smoke in general is carcinogenic, the cannabinoids in marijuana exert various protective effects and inhibit tumor growth. If you know of any additional studies which—with sound methodology—either affirm or negate what I have posted, please share them by commenting below.

King Cthulhu’s Music Chamber—Edition Two

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

A great song to lose yourself in (not Eminem) when on copious amounts of THC is “The Birth and Death of the Day” by Explosions in the Sky. By the way, Postrock (which is the genre of this band) is by far one of the most moving and almost spiritual genres on this planet.

Literally the song portrays the birth and death of a day. To experience this in a very moving and intense 8 minutes, you should listen to song. The album it’s from is called “All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone.”

$32 Million Grow Busted in Southern California

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

——————————

The site, which has already been cleared of some 9,139 illegal marijuana plants, was located on a 30-acre avocado orchard northeast of Orosi on the 14800 block of Johnson Drive, Orosi. Officers discovered a large-scale processing station there, including drying fans, heaters and ventilation equipment to “aid in the drying process,” deputies reported.

Equipment designed to grow marijuana indoors was also discovered at the Orosi site. Officials of electricity provider Southern California Edison revealed that power was being diverted illegally to the site.

The seized plants’ estimated street value was estimated by police to be $37.3 million. Previously dried marijuana amounting to around 500 pounds valued at $2 million was also seized and destroyed.

Well, this is a pretty big bust. The guys they’ve arrested will probably spend some time in prison. Leave your thoughts below.

Stoner Culture Phrases

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

by Lb13

Puff Puff Pass—This means take two puffs then pass it to the next guy. This is usually said when someone takes a bunch of tokes without sharing once. Usually everyone has a understanding that you take two puffs then you pass it to the right, but if someone violates that understanding someone will let him know by saying ”puff puff pass!”

Don’t Fuck Up The Rotation—Fucking up the rotation is never a good thing to do in any crowd. This usually happens when a person passing is too high to remember who’s next to get the blunt and passes it to the wrong person, at which point a good Samaritan will correct him by saying ”Don’t fuck up the rotation!”

You Touched It, You Hit It—This phrase in stoner culture means that if you touch the bong blunt pipe or joint then you MUST take a puff. This usually happens when there is a circle of pot heads standing around getting high off the same blunt joint or pipe and there is someone else standing there who doesn’t wish to smoke and he grabs the blunt to pass it to the next guy. Little does he know the next guy won’t accept it unless he takes a puff because ‘’he touched it, now he must hit it.’

I like these phrases because they were formed so everyone gets high and no one is left out. That sort of thought process is what sets potheads aside from users of hard drugs. Although these phrases are sometimes found used in reference to other recreational substances they are almost exclusively used within the stoner culture.

If you have any thoughts, opinions or other phrases feel free to post a comment.

Fluffy Nugs—Be Careful, These Are Highly Dank!

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

I was looking for sweet pictures of bud, and I nearly compromised my principles by attempting to select a sub-par image of marijuana buds. Fortunately for you, dear reader, I came across this rather fluffy cannabinoid-laden pile of Purple Kush nugs! Click on the above picture for an ultra high-res copy of the photo. Suitable for use as desktop wallpaper! Leave your opinion of this strain below.

Illicit Marijuana Grows Continue to Pollute U.S. National Forests

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

—————————–

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (AP) — National forests and parks — long popular with Mexican marijuana-growing cartels — have become home to some of the most polluted pockets of wilderness in America because of the toxic chemicals needed to eke lucrative harvests from rocky mountainsides, federal officials said.

The grow sites have taken hold from the West Coast’s Cascade Mountains, as well as on federal lands in Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Seven hundred grow sites were discovered on U.S. Forest Service land in California alone in 2007 and 2008 — and authorities say the 1,800-square-mile Sequoia National Forest is the hardest hit.

Weed and bug sprays, some long banned in the U.S., have been smuggled to the marijuana farms. Plant growth hormones have been dumped into streams, and the water has then been diverted for miles in PVC pipes.

Multi-Million Dollar Grow Busted in Alabama

Friday, October 10th, 2008

——————————

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department has uncovered a mult-million dollar indoor pot operation which has been growing marijuana in a warehouse for three years.

Deputies raided the building at 911 41st Street North in Birmingham Thursday night after a two month investigation.

The article states that between 400 and 500 plants were confiscated. I’m a little skeptical over the assessed value of the pot, but I think it has been pretty well established by now that our government vastly overinflates the value of street drug seizures. The part of the article about the pot being able to cause “LSD-like hallucinations” would be humorous if it weren’t for the large contingent of ignorant folk who believe statements like this.

Cannabis Use—Less Harmful Than Smoking or Drinking

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Cannabis is less harmful than alcohol or tobacco, according to a report by a British research charity Thursday, which called for a “serious rethink” of drug policy.
