Marijuana in Your National Park

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

From the article:

——————————

Local, state and federal agents broke up the operation and seized nearly 9,600 plants. Five illegal aliens were detained nearby during the operation, and while suspected of involvement were not arrested.

The work that went into the grow was enormous. About 5 acres was cleared of dense brush — most of it done by hand — and large areas were terraced and planted. A trail network connected the five distinct sites and the “hooch,” the camp built survival-style with raised beds made of tanoak poles and ferns.

”This is where they like to put them,” said park Supervising Ranger Corky Farley of illegal grows on public land, “where no one will go.”

Legalization would take away the incentive to grow in places like these. Leave your views below.

Austin City Limits—A Highly Stoner-Friendly Event

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Today, your editor in chief made a lengthy voyage to the Austin City Limits music festival. Here’s the low-down:

——————————

I eventually roused myself out of bed at noon after a night of heavy smoking with few breaks. Today was no ordinary day. Today was day 2 of the Austin City Limits music festival. The sole band of my direct interest, CSS, was scheduled today for 3:30. I managed to print my ticket and eventually make it to the show by way of a shuttle bus sometime after getting out of bed. If I may observe, the shuttle bus service was very well managed. I walked my way through a relatively short queue and boarded an air-conditioned bus which took me directly to the festival with a minimum of fanfare. After purchasing some water, which by indication of price was evidently in possession of some very special and amazing properties, I made my way to the AT&T Blue Room to wait for CSS. A band called the Fratellis were finishing up the tail end of their set. I sat on the ground and began to roast the tip from one of the joints I had brought. I took a few hits and extinguished the handy little fellow. I came up as the band played their hit song Flathead. I must note, now, that like many other music festivals, ACL absolutely reeked of pot at all times, so I wasn’t particularly worried about any problems arising from my smoking.

Eventually the band came on, and I toked up as they opened their set with the song Jager Yoga. I was not many rows from the stage, and the sound engulfed me as the cannabinoids began their familiar dance. I continued to smoke throughout the rest of the show with no problems. Some gents a couple rows in front of me were smoking out of a fancy glass chillum, and there were many other such instruments being used prominently. After the set ended, I wandered around the show and sampled various other bands while enjoying the rather intense effects of the herb.

All in all, the festival comes highly recommended to any stoners who wish to smoke while enjoying music.

Some Dank Buds

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

The name given for this strain by the poster was Bubba Kush. Looks absolutely delicious. I see a hint of purple in there, but it appears light, fluffy and green overall. I have not smoked this strain, but given the chance I would gladly partake.

Washington State Judge Knows Better Than Man’s Physician, Takes His Marijuana

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Full article

——————————

…Defense attorney Douglass Hiatt argued that opiates sickened Dalton and did not relieve his pain, but Judge Laurie sided with prosecutors, effectively overruling the recommendation of the physician who okayed Dalton’s medical marijuana use.

An angry Hiatt said the judge had no business second-guessing the doctor’s recommendation. “If Judge Laurie wants to be a doctor, she should go to medical school … No patient in this state is safe if she’s right.”…

It’s very disconcerting that someone who has the power to take away your freedom could be this uneducated on what is ultimately a very vital subject.

The Old Standard—Northern Lights

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Click the pic for ULTRA high res!

Northern Lights is a fantastic strain. I remember the first time I smoked some. A friend and I had decided to pick up some bud from across town. After we arrive at the proper location, we’re pleased to find that northern lights is the bud of the day. We smoked some though a vaporizer, and this amazing hybrid set me straight for quite some time. I enjoyed that, and to tell the truth, haven’t had any since. I certainly look forward to the day when I may set foot in an Amsterdam coffee shop and sample this herb again.

On Lighters—Just Buy the Damn Bic

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

It has never ceased to amaze me just how many stoners partake of our peculiar craft with the inferior sort of lighter that is a complete chore to get lit and keep lit. During my introductory period to the herb, I was always at the mercy of other people’s lighters, and as a result of this I am a hardcore lighter nazi. I shouldn’t have to state this, but by referring to myself as a nazi I am attempting to illustrate by means of hyperbola that I am rather picky when it comes to the sort of lighter I choose to carry. Anyway, I soon learned that the piss-poor lighters other people carry are never to be trusted when it comes time to light the bowl. The solution?

A Bic lighter:

Hell yes. These lighters are simple, practically indestructible and they always light until they run out of gas. Really: every stoner should carry a no-nonsense gets-the-job-done-every-time lighter like this. Plus, the safety mechanism is laughably simple to remove and with a minimum of work (how-to of that here) you can remove it and have a lighter that is extremely easy to strike:

We can do this, people. It’s not hard. Just buy the damn Bic next time you’re at the convenience store and you need a lighter.

Sri Lanka Government Wants to Grow Its Own Marijuana

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Article from Reuters:

By C. Bryson Hull

COLOMBO (Reuters) – Sri Lanka’s government wants to grow its own marijuana.

Facing a lack of the fresh weed for use in traditional Ayurvedic medical preparations, the government ministry responsible wants to be excepted from laws that have made marijuana illegal on the Indian Ocean island since the 1890s.

The Ministry of Indigenous Medicine this month broached a plan to grow 4,000 kg a year of marijuana, also known as cannabis, on a proposed 20 acre farm.

“We are interested in getting some approval to grow some cannabis with government sponsorship, but there must be controls. It is under study,” Asoka Malimage, secretary at the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine, told Reuters on Thursday.

Ayurveda is a traditional medicine with roots in the early Hindu era which makes wide use of herbs and natural remedies with the goal of healing the body and mind. In Sri Lanka, ayurveda practitioners outnumber Western-trained doctors.

Fresh marijuana fried in ghee, a form of clarified butter, is used in about 18 different traditional medicines for treating a wide variety of ailments, Malimage said.

“At the moment they are getting some stocks from the courts of law, because there are people who grow this cannabis illegally and they have been raided by the police,” Malimage said.

But the problem with that weed is that it is old and dried out, said Dr. Dayangani Senasekara, head of state-run Bandaranaike Memorial Ayurvedic Research Institute in Colombo.

“You can’t get the fresh juice from old cannabis. What we get now is the powdered form and it’s not effective,” Senasekara said.

The institute is making preparations that use marijuana to treat high cholesterol, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and skin discolorations, and soon will formulate one for treating cataracts, Senasekara said.

The use of marijuana to treat glaucoma, nausea, pain and the loss of appetite from diseases like cancer and AIDS has been the subject of great medical debate in the west.

Some countries and parts of the United States have permitted its use to treat those conditions, after some medical studies showed it was effective.

DANK Bud of the Day: Strawberry Cough

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Uh, yeah. This is some seriously dank weed. Sativa 80% indica 20%. The name of the strain could not be better; it evokes some very visceral imagery pertaining to the pulmonary effects which manifest right after clearing a bowl. Click the picture above for a very high resolution copy! Enjoy.

Trip Report: Some Potent Acid Plus a Lake

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

This trip report was written by an avid weed smoker I know. He’ll probably write some more stuff for us in the future, so post what you think of this trip report down below.

——————————

For years people have used psychedelic drugs to get in touch with their spiritual side, even to try to meet God. This has become less prevalent in our modern world as people have become less religious, less spiritual and more inclined to get ‘fucked up.’ Unfortunately for these people, strong psychedelics can carry them into places they never thought existed, and they can meet God even if they weren’t intending to, or ready for it. This is the story of how I spiritually met God, died, learned the meaning of life and achieved nirvana, all while putting me and my friends’ lives in real mortal danger.
